Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay was born on the 24th of August 1972 on the 24th of August 1972 in Long Beach California. DuVernay lived with her aunt Denise and her mother, who pushed DuVernay to become creative and drawn by the arts. She worked as a night nurse in order to give her aunt time that she required during the days to be able to enjoy writing, theatre and literature. DuVernay was exposed to the movie of 1961 West Side Story by her aunt. DuVernay was instructed by her mom that the art form could be utilized to promote activism. Her summers in Selma, Alabama would inspire her later to produce a film on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay was a student at Saint Joseph High School Lakewood California in the year 1990. After graduation she was enrolled at her first year at the University of California Los Angeles where she was awarded degrees in English as well as African American studies. As in school, DuVernay became interested in producing in television journalism. She began her career as an intern at CBS News, during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay recalled being given the responsibility of looking over the residence and scrutinizing the rubbish of one jurors. The jury member was unhappy with her journalism duties, and decided to change to the world of public relations. DuVernay started her career working as a junior press assistant for a film studio that was small just after she had graduated from college. In 1999, she established her own private company for public relations called The DuVernay Agency. Aside from PR, her agency also launched several marketing and lifestyle platforms, such as those like the Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective, Urban Eye and HelloBeautiful.
